Achieved: Secondary Level in Workplace Safety Management
Congratulations and thank you to all of our ConneXu team for their hard work and dedication to health and safety. Led by Janette and Laura (Safewise), a huge effort by the Health and Safety team (pictured) went into the development and roll-out of ConneXu’s Workplace Safety Management Practices (WSMP) over the past few months, and culminated in us being awarded secondary level accreditation for WSMP.
To check we are up to national health and safety standards, on 10th January the ACC conducted an audit of our WSMP systems. The ACC audits to three standards – primary, secondary and tertiary. We achieved secondary level – an especially great achievement due to the relatively short timeframe in which ConneXu and Safewise have been working together. A secondary level accreditation demonstrates excellence in health and safety in the industry, and is valid for two years.
The audit process, which runs over a full day, is led by an ACC auditor. Undertaken at the workplace’s offices, they begin by running through the WSMP national safety standards, which include:
Accident management
Hazard risk management
Health and safety management in general
Worker participation
Emergency management, and
Contractor management
They then complete a workplace observation, then undertake both management and worker focus groups. This is where they review specific health and safety procedures and policies, and look for evidence of these things in practice, including staff knowledge of these processes.
A report is written within 3 days and you are informed what level you have achieved.
Again, well done team on achieving a fantastic standard in health and safety. Your commitment and dedication to the process has helped to keep all of us working in a healthy and safe workplace, and reinforced our overall values of person-centred care – both for the people we support and our staff.
