Business Support Team – making things happen
The upstairs reception area at ConneXu buzzes with activity and conversation, and as always, there’s a warm, friendly welcome as staff and visitors arrive. Greeting you are members of our happy and extremely supportive Business Support team, led by Janette Schrader.
The team members (Kavita Mani, Helen Irwin and Janette) feel very comfortable with each other, and are also close friends outside work. Occasionally starting the day with breakfast together gives them
the chance to develop a good understanding of their teammates, and to talk over the work they have in hand.
Janette Schrader: Business Support Leader
Janette moved to ConneXu as a Community Facilitator in 2012, leaving the private health sector after 14 years of service. She and Kavita, who also began work as a Community Facilitator at that time, became good friends as they learned how to support and encourage the people they worked with. They both still value that early opportunity to work closely with the people they supported, sharing in their pleasure as they achieved each step towards their goals. They experienced first-hand how firmly committed ConneXu is to enabling good lives for the people they support.
Kavita and Helen appreciate Jeanette’s bubbly, positive personality, and her resourceful, encouraging leadership. They can take their questions to her and know they’ll receive well-considered, reliable advice.
Kavita Mani: Accounts Payable Administrator
Coming to New Zealand from Fiji six years ago with only her financial skills and experience, Kavita and her family have worked hard and thrived. Finding a warm welcome from the people at ConneXu, she has come to feel part of an extended caring family.
Fiji has no equivalent system of care, so she has found ConneXu interesting and most rewarding. Kavita naturally makes friends easily, but as Community Facilitator she learned a great deal about these special relationships, and one of her main roles was to make it possible for the people she supported to attain their goals. Having had to adjust to her new life and language while supporting her family had given her a keen understanding of what it meant to have to overcome obstacles to reach goals, and Kavita loved her work.
Her management skills and sincere regard for people led to her appointment as receptionist, and then to her present role, where she has been able to apply her qualifications and experience as Accounts Payable Administrator.
Helen Irwin: Operational Support Administrator
Helen has supported the ConneXu operations team for the last 18 months, and loves her work. Along with the excellent people skills she brought to this role, her can-do attitude and efficiency have become the hub of the busy ConneXu head office.
An adaptable person, Helen is well aware that the central business of every staff member at ConneXu is to enable good lives for the people they support. She assists the operations staff to accomplish that work by being effective and flexible in taking on tasks as they arise. Her list of duties keeps expanding from day to day, according to need; luckily, Helen likes a challenge and finds her role very satisfying.
Helen herself quickly became an integral and popular part of the ConneXu team. If she isn’t somewhere near the reception desk, people soon begin to ask for her. A good listener, with experience in customer service, she takes pleasure in resolving problems for visitors and staff, and her cheerful, willing attitude personifies the spirit of ConneXu.
