Caroline Hirama – Quality Practice Leader
Caroline joined ConneXu in 2007, as a Community Facilitator supporting individuals to be active members of their community. In 2013 she made a decision to use skills from previous office management roles and joined the Business Support Team as an Administration Specialist. Caroline enjoyed this role and found it invaluable to learn the administrative side of the organisation’s operations, but her passion remained with enabling people to live good lives.
When the opportunity to apply for a Quality Practice Leader position arose Caroline did not hesitate and was very happy to secure the role. She enjoys working in a team environment with the people we support, their families, staff and other providers to ensure that they are safe, happy and involved in activities or opportunities that interest them. In this way she actively works towards achieving our vision, ‘Communities where people are empowered’.
Caroline holds a qualification in Human Service, Disability Services.
She grew up locally and attended Te Awamutu College. She moved into the workforce at Tokanui Hospital as a psychiatric assistant and this is where her passion for people was triggered. After her marriage, Caroline and her husband were dairy farmers for 30 years, and had two daughters, one son and further down the track, six grandchildren. Caroline says she is kept very busy during the weekends with her grandchildren, home and gardens. She enjoys watching movies (dramas), sewing (she’s quite the fashion designer) and cooking for others.
