ConneXu is seeking two experienced and passionate individuals to join our Board of Trustees and help guide the strategic direction of our organisation.

As a charitable trust based in Te Awamutu, ConneXu partners with disabled people and their family/whānau to provide whole-of-life supports and opportunities that enable people to live their life their way.

About ConneXu

ConneXu works alongside disabled people and their whānau to create opportunities that support independence, connection, and personal growth.

Our Board of Trustees provides governance oversight to ensure the organisation continues to deliver high-quality services, operate sustainably, and remain aligned with its purpose and values.

Trustees work collaboratively with the Chief Executive and Executive Leadership Team to guide the strategic direction of the organisation and ensure strong governance practices are maintained.

The Trustee Role

As a Trustee you will contribute to the governance and strategic oversight of ConneXu. This includes:

  • Providing stewardship and input into the strategic direction of the organisation

  • Working with the Chief Executive and fellow trustees to develop high-level policies and organisational objectives

  • Ensuring ConneXu meets its legal, ethical, and regulatory obligations

  • Monitoring organisational performance against agreed goals

  • Supporting evaluation of programmes and services delivered by ConneXu

  • Acting as an ambassador for the organisation and strengthening relationships with stakeholders

  • Representing ConneXu within the wider community where appropriate

Trustees play an important role in ensuring ConneXu continues to deliver services that create meaningful outcomes for the people we partner with.

Skills and Experience We Are Seeking

We are particularly interested in candidates who bring expertise in one or more of the following areas:

  • Human Resources

  • Change Management

  • Digital Transformation

  • Property Development

  • Business or organisational entity structures

Ideal Attributes

Successful candidates will demonstrate:

  • Financial literacy

  • Experience in leadership, management, or governance roles

  • Strong analytical and strategic thinking abilities

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • The ability to work collaboratively as part of a governance team

Experience within the not-for-profit or community sector would be advantageous but is not essential.

Time Commitment

Trustees are expected to:

  • Attend and prepare for bi-monthly board meetings

  • Participate in one of the board’s special purpose committees

  • Conduct annual Health and Safety site visits

  • Occasionally represent ConneXu at community events or meetings

Board meetings are typically held at ConneXu’s Head Office in Te Awamutu, with some participation available online. Committee meetings are generally held online.
